A Positive ER Experience
When Lisa Cooper suspected her son Jonathan had broken his arm, she knew he needed emergency care. A friend recommended CHRISTUS Bossier Emergency Hospital, and from the moment they arrived, Lisa felt confident they had made the right choice.
Having visited CHRISTUS facilities before, Lisa already appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff. Still, this visit came with added concerns. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic, and like many parents, she worried not only about her son's injury but also about keeping her family safe.
Those concerns quickly eased upon arrival. Lisa and Jonathan were immediately provided masks and taken directly to a room. The care team answered questions, focused on Jonathan's comfort, and carefully explained the next steps in his treatment. Before they left, the team made sure they had everything they needed, including prescriptions and follow-up instructions with a specialist.
"Our experience was nothing but positive," Lisa said. "From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in good hands."
Jonathan was understandably scared and in significant pain when they arrived. Lisa recalls how quickly the staff helped him feel more comfortable. An emergency room nurse promptly addressed his pain and took time to connect with him through conversation.
"Within fifteen minutes, Jonathan was calm and the pain was subsiding," Lisa shared.
Lisa was especially grateful for the balance of compassionate treatment and safety precautions during a challenging time. She said the staff made the process feel effortless, providing personalized attention while maintaining measures to protect patients and families.
For anyone who may hesitate to seek emergency care because of concerns about safety, Lisa offers reassurance from her own experience.
"Our health is so important," she said. "All of my fears left the moment we walked in that door. I trusted the staff to give my son all of the care he needed while keeping us safe. They did just that."
Several members of the care team left a lasting impression, including Dr. Randy Davis and nurse Stephen, whose kindness and professionalism helped make a difficult situation easier for both mother and son.
Today, Jonathan is doing well. He has followed up with his specialist and is looking forward to getting back to the activities he enjoys, including playing basketball with his brother in the driveway.
Reflecting on the experience, Lisa remains thankful for the physicians and staff who cared for her family.
"The time and attention you give to a child with a broken arm in the middle of a crisis made us feel like the whole world slowed down for us," she said. "The smiles you offer behind the masks, even when you are tired, do not go unnoticed. My son and I are especially grateful for you."
For Lisa and Jonathan, what began as a stressful emergency became a reminder of how compassionate, attentive care can bring comfort when families need it most.
